
Introduction
Another family favourite. Especially for a youngster. It is as simple for a ten-year-old helping her mother, as it is for a grown up with very little time.
You can substitute some of the ingredients. Honey for syrup. Cane sugar for brown sugar. Pecans for walnuts. Gluten free options for plain flour.
Ingredients
- 2oz (50g) marg
- 1 level desert spoon of syrup
- 4oz (100g) brown sugar
- 4oz (100g) plain flower
- 1 1/2 level teaspoon baking powder
- 2oz (50g) chopped walnuts
- 1 egg beaten
- icing sugar
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190C / 375F / Gas mark 5
- Grease a 7″ round or square baking tin
- Melt the marg, syrup and sugar over a low heat
- Remove from the heat and stir in the flour, baking powder and walnuts
- Stir in the beaten egg
- Spread into the tin
- Bake for 25/30 minutes in the centre of the oven
- Allow to cool
- Dust with icing sugar through a sieve
- Cut into squares
